EcoMats from Leaf & Fiber are Eco Friendly doormats made from sustainable raw materials. They are durable, water proof and anti-skid. Our Eco Mats are made from Coconut Fiber with Natural rubber as base. Coconut trees are cultivated primarily for their Fruit and Oil for use in Food, Healthcare and Cosmetic Industries. The fruit of the coconut tree -the coconut-has an outer husk. These husks, separated from the nuts are then dried and converted into fibers. Coconut fibers also called as Coir Fiber are then spun and woven into mats. They are then backed by the natural rubber base to make them anti-skid. The structure of Coir fiber cells is narrow and hollow, with thick walls made of cellulose. Mature coir fibers contain more lignin, a complex woody chemical and less cellulose than fibers such as flax or cotton. This makes coir stronger, durable and relatively water-proof. The Natural Rubber used in our mats is made from white latex which flows in the inner bark of the rubber tree. The latex is tapped by making a series of cuts into the bark. Natural rubber is a renewable resource and is important because of its unique qualities, not found in synthetic rubber.
